Can Facebook put the genie back in the privacy-bottle? I think they are too far behind the curve.

From Yahoo! News:

Buffeted by privacy snafus and the lingering fallout from a damning, years-old instant messaging thread, Facebook chief exec Mark Zuckerberg switched into full-on damage control Monday, confessing that the sprawling social network had “missed the mark” when it comes to its complex privacy controls — and pledging to do better.

I think Facebook is too late, and too far behind the curve on the privacy issue. The buzz regarding Facebook’s cavalier and very public use of your private data to profit is building to a fever pitch. Only now that it’s big enough to be a thread does Zuckerberg care to do anything about it.

They (the Blackhawks) seem very destined right now. They have a goaltender that’s on fire. They’re getting scoring not necessarily from their superstars, I mean that with all due respect to the Byfugliens, the Bollands, those type of players. They’re doing the things they need to do to win.

Across Western Europe, the “lifestyle superpower,” the assumptions and gains of a lifetime are suddenly in doubt. The deficit crisis that threatens the euro has also undermined the sustainability of the European standard of social welfare, built by left-leaning governments since the end of World War II.

Um, iPhone sales are humming because the phone rocks

Deutsche Telekom To Present 2009 Results

I ran across a story from the AP that really made no sense. It had this headline: Apple’s iPhone does well without being the best.

The writer, Jessica Mintz essentially says that despite being three years old and lacking certain “features”, that iPhone 3G and 3GS sales continue to be brisk. She goes on to say that people get the iPhone for the “cool factor”, and not because it’s a great phone.

The iPhone is a great phone, and still has no true rival. And people get it because it absolutely blows everything else away. Period. The apps are slick, easy to use, and professional looking. Meanwhile, most of the Blackberry apps I’ve seen look like they were designed by a third-grader with a knack for ugliness. Sure, the iPhone has a low-res camera, but who wants to wait for the 2-meg upload of 8-megapixel pictures up to TwitPic over 3G? Life’s too short for that.

Jessica, you write a great article, but you get it all wrong. The iPhone sells like hot-cakes because it rocks like nothing else does. Period.
